The use of spices dates from the start of European interest in Tea. The Dutch and the English were initially very keen to trade in spices and after tea became fashionable it was inevitable that they combined the two. King Charles ll of England was the first king to receive the gift of tea and the oils of cinnamon from the East India Company in 1664 and it is tempting to think that he may have ordered it to be combined to make the first masala tea. J.B. Masala tea is a combination of this old English tradition.
